The Knicks announced in October that all extension talks are paused until later in the season. Four players are extension-eligible: Towns, Hart, McBride and Kolek. Towns can decline his $61.0M player option and sign up to a four-year, $276M extension; the Knicks' offer has been reported around $200M. McBride, at $4.0M in the last year of his deal, is the apron squeeze in one line: his next contract is the one the second apron makes hard.

The first-round price of the Bridges trade is the three picks to Brooklyn plus the 2028 swap. The Wizards' top-eight protected first never conveyed; it converted into Washington's second-round picks in 2026 and 2027, and the 2027 second above is the last piece of it. Second-round counts are via RealGM; several future seconds are conditional or the less favorable of other teams' picks.

With three of the next five firsts in Brooklyn, the Knicks' asset game is seconds, the 2028 swap, expiring money and two-way mining. That is why a former 17th overall pick landing on a two-way for nothing was a real story, and it lives here now instead of dying in a tweet.
